Seventeen-year old Flutist Faith Peeler, winner of the 2010 concerto competition of the
Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra, will solo with the MSO in the opening number,
performing the delicate and airy Cécile Chaminade’s “Concertino for Flute”,
which has been called one of the most beautiful pieces for flute ever written.
Faith Peeler has played the flute for 7 ½ years. Inspired by her mother, she took up flute at age nine and ran with it. Playing in the school band, three times she was awarded the second place practice award. In the spring of 2009, she was chosen to play in the United States Naval Academy’s “Side by Side” concert.
In April of 2009, Faith won the Annapolis Chamber Players’ competition. More recently, Faith was awarded first place winner of the concerto competition organized each year by the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra. MSO Maestro Julien Benichou is music director of this youth orchestra. She will be performing her winning piece with the MSO orchestra at all three venues in April 2010, as part of her reward for winning the concerto competition, to the delight of our audiences.
Faith Peeler is currently a flute teacher in the Annapolis/Baltimore area, and plans to study music performance and/or music education in college.
Come and enjoy the lovely and talented flutist performance with the MSO!
