Worchester County - May 2018 - Small Musicians Make Big Music with the MSO

On Monday, May 7, kindergartners and First Graders at Showell and Ocean City Elementary Schools were all smiles! They were making music, practicing the high and low sounds of the violin and the cello. Helping them try their hand at student-sized instruments were professional musicians from the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra (MSO), Blair Skinner, violinist, and Ismar Gomes, cellist, who travelled from Baltimore to spend the day with these budding musicians.

The Dispatch - April 2017 - Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra Representatives Visit Berlin Intermediate School

On April 11, representatives from the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra made a trip to Berlin Intermediate School to teach master classes to fifth and sixth graders who play the violin, viola and cello. Each group of students met with the MSO professional musician who plays a similar instrument. This outreach program was paid for by Michael Jahnigen, a generous donor. Delmarva Life - Aug 2016 - The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra looks “to enrich life in the Mid-Atlantic region through the power of live classical music.”

The MSO was incorporated in May 1997 as Delmarva’s first homegrown professional orchcestra and performed its first concert, under the direction of Music Director Donald C. Buxton, at the Ocean City (Maryland) Convention Center on Nov. 21, 1997. All three MSO concerts during the 1997-1998 season were performed at the convention center.

Press Release - May 2015 - Partnership of MSO and Worcester County Public Schools to Receive Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award

The MSO is excited to announce that from a diverse pool of applicants, the partnership between the MSO and Worcester County Public Schools has been selected to participate in the 2015 Symposium on Music in Schools and receive the Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award. This year's Symposium, which will take place June 4-7, 2015, on the Yale campus in New Haven, CT, focuses on partnerships between professional music organizations and public school music programs and will facilitate high-level discussion about the importance of music in young people's lives.
