Following in the footsteps of his late grandfather, solo cornet emeritus of the President’s Own, Guy McIntosh began learning trumpet at the age of 10. While in school, Guy was a member of the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra and principal trumpet of Peabody Preparatory’s Sinfonietta.

Guy went on to attend Towson University, studying with Luis Engelke and Phil Snedecor. In his third year at Towson, Guy applied for a prestigious year-in semester at the Royal Academy of Music in London, UK. Upon auditioning he was instead invited to transfer to the Academy, being offered a full scholarship.

Guy flourished musically at the Royal Academy. He performed regularly with the Academy Symphony and Concert Orchestras, working with world-renowned conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Tadaaki Otaka, Susanna Malkki, Thierry Fischer, Ignat Solzhenitsyn, J. Reilly Lewis, and Diego Masson. During his time in London he also performed with the London Sinfonietta, London Symphony Orchestra Side by Side, Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, University of London Symphony Orchestra, Kings College Orchestra, London Oratory School Schola, Royal Academy Brass Soloists, and the Academy Manson Ensemble.

In 2007 he was invited to tour Spain and France with the Encuentro Musica y Academia de Santander, a summer music festival conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy. While abroad, Guy performed at almost every major concert venue in London, including the Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Center, St Paul's Cathedral, Kings Place, Cadogan Hall, and Wigmore Hall.

At the Academy, Guy was a student of Rod Franks, Mark David, James Watson, Howard Snell, and John Hutchins. He also had the opportunity to perform in masterclasses with Eric Aubier, Reinhold Friedrich, Kristian Steenstrup, Michael Laird, Thierry Caens, and Rex Richardson. Guy can be heard on recordings released under the Academy's own label, "The Magic Flute: Live with Sir Collin Davis" and "Richard Strauss: Complete Works for Brass".

After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in 2009, Guy returned home to the United States. He currently resides in Lancaster, PA and freelances in the greater DC/Baltimore/Philadelphia metro areas. Guy is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, and Pennsylvania Philharmonic. He has also performed with many of the region’s professional orchestras, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Concert Artists of Baltimore, Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Kennett Symphony Orchestra, York Symphony Orchestra, and the Maryland Lyric Opera.

In addition to being a professional musician, Guy is an arts advocate and marketing specialist with a track record for leading arts and education-focused organizations to successfully build audiences, increase revenue, and expand their community impact. In 2020 he was named the Executive Director of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra.

In his spare time, Guy enjoys experiencing Lancaster’s incredible restaurant scene with his partner StephJo Wise, taking day trips around Lancaster County with StephJo and her son Hugo, and cooking at their home in Lancaster City.
