Meet Our Musicians: Tzu-Jou Yeh, Cello

Cellist Tzu-Jou Yeh (Zoi) is a native of Taiwan. Her extensive performance and education experience encompass all areas of solo, chamber, and orchestral music. Yeh is currently completing her Doctorate in Musical Arts for Cello at the Peabody Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Amit Peled. She holds a Master’s in Cello Performance from the Peabody as well. 

Yeh was awarded the Grace Claggett Ranney Prize in 2015. In Taiwan, Yeh was granted an Excellent Grade in the National Student Competition of Music and came in Third Place in the Kaohsiung City Preliminary Contest Cello Solo. Yeh was also conferred the title of Premium Student during her time at the National Kaohsiung Normal University, where she studied under Chu-Chuan Liu. Yeh currently conducts master classes for undergraduate level students at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Yeh has taken master classes with artists including Steven Isserlis, Paul Katz, Schmuel Magan, David Krieger, Karel Fiala, and Matt Haimovitz. A proponent of historical performance, she studied baroque cello with John Moran.

For four years in a row, Yeh has been invited to play for the benefit concert series “If Music Be the Food” with members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.  Additionally, she performs as a soloist with the Baltimore Baroque Band.  Yeh has also performed internationally, in Central America and Asia.

Yeh is part of the Baltimore-based strings ensemble Mount Vernon Virtuosi.  As the cellist in Trio Phoenix, she performs primarily Baroque period music at concerts and private functions across the Asia Pacific region.
