Cameron Farnsworth is a skilled performer and educator of instrumental music based in

Northern Virginia. He currently holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the

Shendandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA, and a master’s degree in tuba performance from

the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. During his time at the University of Maryland,

Farnsworth studied with MSgt. (Ret.) Willie Clark of the United States Air Force Ceremonial

Brass. Previously, he studied with Dr. Mark Thiele, Michael Bunn, Andrew Hitz, and Dr.

Matthew Niess.

Farnsworth was the graduate assistant of the UMD tuba studio, where he worked with

Professor Clark in running studio classes, teaching lessons to undergraduate members, and

performing with the UMD Brass Ensemble. In addition to his studio duties, Farnsworth was a

founding member of the first ever UMD graduate fellowship brass quintet, the Terrapin Brass.

As a principal player of the University’s top musical ensembles, Farnsworth had the chance to

perform cornerstone pieces of the symphonic orchestra and wind band repertoires. Highlights

included Gustav Maher’s Symphony no. 2, Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony no. 5, Joseph

Schwantner’s …and the mountains rising nowhere…, and Karel Husa’s Music for Prague 1968.

Farnsworth is an active freelance musician in the DC Metro Area where he plays with a

variety of different groups, ranging from symphonies, wind ensembles, chamber groups, pit

orchestras, big bands, and even polka bands. His most recent accomplishment was winning an

audition to the Baltimore Symphony’s sub-list in the summer of 2023. In addition to Baltimore,

Farnsworth frequently subs with the National Philharmonic, Alexandria Symphony Orchestra,

and Fairfax Symphony Orchestra. He is also the principal tuba of the Great Falls Philharmonic,

and a full time member of the Capital Wind Symphony.

Alongside his career as a performer, Farnsworth is an avid music educator. He works as

musical clinician for numerous middle and high school programs throughout Northern Viringia,

while maintaining an ever-growing private studio of low brass students.

When he isn’t performing, practicing or teaching, you can find Cameron arranging brass

ensemble music, baking deserts with his fiancé, or biking the beautiful Washington & Old

Dominion Trail.
