Meet Our Musicians: Cheryl Hill, Clarinet

Cheryl Hill, clarinetist, is a core member of the MidAtlantic Symphony. She is also Principal clarinet with the National Philharmonic at Strathmore. Previously she was Second Clarinet with the National Chamber Orchestra (Bethesda, MD), and Baltimore Opera Company until 2009, and before moving to the DC area, with Orchestra New England (New Haven). Ms Hill has participated with the MidAtlantic Symphony Education and Outreach Programs at schools on the Eastern Shore.
Ms. Hill particularly enjoys playing chamber music, having attended the Marlboro Music Festival, Yale Summer School as well as the Waterloo and Sarasota Music Festivals. She currently performs with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Wind Quintet, National Philharmonic Wind Quintet, the National Chamber Players, and Bamboo Wind Ensemble, as well as past performances with 1807 and Friends ( Philadelphia) and New York Philomusica (NYC). In 1984, her ensemble Montage( clarinet, violin, cello and piano) won first prize in the International Chamber Music Competition (NYC) which culminated in a debut performance at Carnegie Recital Hall.
Ms. Hill received her BMA at New England Conservatory of Music, and her MMA at SUNY Stony Brook. She studied with Felix Viscuglia, Peter Hadcock, David Glazer and worked closely as well with Julius Levine, Marcel Moyse and Harold Wright. Currently, she teaches at the Washington Conservatory of Music and in her home studio.
Recordings with EMI and Marlboro Music. Ms. Hill plays Buffet Tosca and Chadash clarinets.
