Meet Our Musicians: Kimberly McCollum, Concertmaster

Kimberly McCollum is a professional violinist who regularly performs and solos around the Mid-Atlantic region. Kimberly received her Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from Boston University and her Bachelor of Music in String Performance from The Florida State University (magna cum laude.) She holds an Advanced Professional Certificate in Music in the state of Maryland where she teaches over 150 strings students and holds the position of Summer Music Camp Orchestra manager in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. In addition, she is a Lecturer in Music at Washington College, where she teaches several courses including string orchestra, chamber music, applied violin/viola, and music methods.  

Kimberly is the concertmaster of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra and the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra. She is a frequent performer with the Annapolis Symphony, York Symphony, Baltimore Choral Arts, and other regional orchestras. Her teachers include Peter Zazofsky, Eliot Chapo, and Jeanne Majors. In addition to her formal music education, she has studied at the Chautauqua Institution in New York and has performed as a member of the esteemed (AIMS orchestra) the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Kimberly has been a member of various orchestras throughout the east-coast including the Civic Symphony Orchestra of Boston (Associate Concertmaster) and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she has performed with the North Shore Philharmonic, Boston Philharmonic, Columbus Symphony, and the Jacksonville Symphony.

Kimberly is an active scholar, regularly presenting at the American String Teachers Association National Conference, local state conferences and publishing articles for the MD/DC chapter journal. She sits on the board of directors for the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra and the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra. When she is not performing or teaching she enjoys exercising, relaxing by the pool, and trips to the beach.
