Born in New York City in 1999, Christopher Chung tried his first notes on the bassoon at the age of 15. He enrolled in formal studies two years later at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, and more recently, he returns to his hometown to pursue further studies at the Juilliard School.
Christopher, in his emerging career, has been presented at La Jolla Music Society, Music from Angel Fire, Edinburgh International Festival, and Colburn Chamber Music Society. He is a founding member of Sonarsix (woodwind quintet & piano), with whom he was awarded 3rd Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
He has appeared as a guest musician with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Charleston Symphony, and Tesserae Baroque. Christopher was part of the Ziering-Conlon Initiative for Recovered Voices, a project that champions and re-presents works suppressed by the Nazi Regime. As part of this endeavor, he has recorded Franz Schreker’s Kammersinfonie and Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto, both of which are archived in the Library of Congress. Outside of the concert hall, he has recorded and performed for numerous independent film and theater productions, once with Monica Bellucci’s one-woman show playing Maria Callas.
Christopher is proudly a student of Judith Leclair and Richard Beene.
