Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I record the movements of my concerto separately?

   Yes. If necessary, movements may be recorded separately. However, we would prefer that the entire concerto be submitted in one video link whenever possible.

2. Do I have to submit the complete concerto for the video round?

   Yes. Applicants must submit the complete concerto for the video round. Submissions that do not include the complete concerto will be disqualified.

3. Does my audition video need to be recorded in one continuous take?

   No. A continuous, single-take recording is not required. Applicants may submit separate movements if needed, provided the submission meets the competition’s other requirements.

4. Can I submit a recording of a live performance with an orchestra?

   Yes. A recording of a live performance with an orchestra is acceptable.

5. My instrument is not listed in the application drop-down menu. Am I still eligible to apply?

   Yes. The Elizabeth Loker International Concerto Competition welcomes applicants performing on any instrument for which a concerto or comparable work for soloist and orchestra has been written.

   If your instrument does not appear in the application drop-down menu, please contact Dane Krich at the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, and we will be happy to assist you.

6. Are there restrictions on repertoire because of orchestra size or music rental requirements?

   No. Applicants should not be discouraged from selecting a concerto because it requires a larger orchestra or because the orchestral materials must be rented.

   The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra is prepared to adjust the size and instrumentation of the orchestra as necessary for any candidate selected for the Final Round. If the required orchestral materials are available only through rental, the MSO will arrange for and cover the rental of those materials for the Final Round.

   Applicants should therefore select the concerto that best represents their artistry and abilities, provided it meets the other repertoire requirements of the competition.

7. Can I apply if I am 25 at the time of application but will be 26 at the time of the competition?

   Yes. You are eligible to apply as long as you are 25 years old at the time you submit your application, even if you turn 26 before the competition.

8. Can my video include multiple camera angles?

   Yes. Multiple camera angles are acceptable. The recording should still clearly represent your performance.

9. Can I submit one concerto for the preliminary round and perform a different concerto in the finals?

   No. Applicants must compete with the same concerto submitted for the recording round and may not perform a completely different concerto in the finals.
