Meet Our Musicians: Mindy Heinsohn, Principal Flute

The concerts will be held tonight Friday, November 3, 7:30 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach, DE, Saturday, November 4, 3 PM at the Performing Arts Center in Ocean City, MD, and Sunday, November 5, 3 PM at Todd Performing Arts Center in Wye Mills, MD.

Flutist Mindy Heinsohn is an active soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. Her performances have taken her from Europe to Central America and around the United States and Canada. Mindy made her Carnegie Hall debut with the Yale Philharmonia under the baton of Kryzstof Penderecki. She has also worked with other notable conductors including Carl St. Clair, Giancarlo Guerrero, Gerard Schwarz, Marin Alsop, Alondra de la Parra, Reinbert de Leeuw, and Peter Oundjian. Mindy previously served as Assistant Principal Flute of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra. She has performed in a number of festivals, including the Chesapeake Chamber Music Festival, the Pablo Casals Festival in Puerto Rico, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Kharkiv Music Festival, and Moritzburg Festival Academy, among others. 

A dedicated pedagogue, Mindy has served as Lecturer in Music at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. She also served on the faculty at the International School of Music in Bethesda, Maryland and the Brigitte Steck Musikschule in Germany. Mindy teaches at the annual Flute Fever Summer Flute Institute in Harwood, Maryland and presents master classes at La Escuela Municipal de Música in Guatemala. She is Founder of the Puerto Rico Flute Club and Co-Founder of LIVE Performing Arts Studio in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she specializes in high-level training of new talent and prepares them for competitions and auditions. In the past five years alone, her students have earned more than $600,000 in scholarships to study in conservatories and universities throughout the United States and Europe. 

Mindy holds a Master of Music from the prestigious Yale School of Music, as well as a Bachelor’s degree from Peabody Conservatory where she studied with world-renowned flutist Marina Piccinini. Other principal teachers include Ransom Wilson, Carol Wincenc, Mimi Stillman, and Josué Casillas Rivera. Currently, Mindy is Professor of Flute at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, Principal Flute of the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico and the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra.
